Forest Recreation, Green Parks and an Active Community Cultural Activities: Payson proudly boasts a concert series offered through Tonto Community Concerts. In addition to our Rim Civic Orchestra there is a Choral Society as well as a thespian arts group and a variety of outdoor enthusiast's organizations. An additional list of clubs and organizations for Payson is included in this package. Our archeological society proudly supports the excavation of the Shoofly Village archeological site about five miles north of Payson. Parks & Recreation: The Town of Payson serves Northern Gila County with a fully organized recreation program including youth baseball, soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and swimming. For the adults, Payson offers a well-rounded program of volleyball, softball, basketball, and tennis. In addition, there are a variety of special events, races, softball tournaments, and community special athletic events. National Forest Recreation: 99% of the land in Northern Gila County is owned and managed by the National Forest Service (NFS), creating a special preserve for a host of wildlife and pristine wilderness locations. Through an extensive network of trails, forest users are able to hike, bike or go horseback riding over hundreds of miles of marked trails.
